Posting to a Prior Period

It is usually best practice to use the current period to post adjustments to the general ledger. However, we recognize that there are exceptions.  If you need to post entries to a prior period, on the GL Options screen, change the fiscal period, create and post the journal entry and reclose the periods.

In General Ledger | Setup | General Ledger Options

1. Change the Fiscal Period to the previous period/year (no users can be working in this company while this change is being made).

2. Create the entry, print and post the entry (paying attention to the posting date)

3. In General Ledger | Period End | Period End Processing
**To advance the period, you can simply change the period in GL Options .  However, to advance the year, you should use Period End Processing.

Clear the Print Period End Reports checkbox and click Proceed.

In this example, this will set the period to FY 2019 Period 1.  If you started in FY 2019 Period 2, change the current period field to Period 2.
